Work has been ongoing along the uMngeni–uThukela pipeline as part of a broader restoration and protection project. This pipeline forms an important part of the region’s water infrastructure, making maintenance and rehabilitation essential for long-term reliability.

A key part of the work being carried out involves the application of a protective bitumen wrap along sections of the pipeline. This wrap acts as a barrier that helps seal potential leak points while protecting the pipe from corrosion and environmental exposure. By reinforcing the outer surface of the pipeline, the bitumen wrap helps extend the service life of the infrastructure and reduce the risk of future failures.

The installation process requires careful preparation of the pipe surface before the wrap is applied. Once installed, the system forms a durable protective layer designed to withstand long-term environmental conditions while maintaining the integrity of the pipeline.

Over the past year, significant progress has been made along the uMngeni–uThukela line, with multiple sections of the pipeline receiving restoration treatment. The project represents a major undertaking, with work continuing to ensure the infrastructure remains reliable for years to come.
