During this project, it was identified that several concrete plinths had been cast below the required height. In addition, the installed anchor bolts were not long enough to properly secure the equipment that would be mounted to the plinths. If left uncorrected, this would have prevented the equipment baseplates from being aligned and fastened correctly.
To resolve the issue, the existing anchor bolts were modified and extended. The bolts were first cut and re-threaded to allow new extensions to be attached. Threaded couplers were then installed, connecting the original bolts to new threaded bars that provided the additional height required for proper installation.
Once the anchor bolts had been extended, the plinths themselves needed to be raised to the correct level. Formwork was constructed around the existing plinths, allowing the concrete to be re-cast to the required height. The new concrete was then placed and carefully finished to achieve the correct final level and surface.
Correcting plinth levels and anchor bolt lengths is essential for ensuring that equipment can be installed securely and aligned accurately. By modifying the existing installation rather than removing and rebuilding the entire structure, the issue was resolved efficiently while maintaining the integrity of the original foundation.
This practical solution allowed the project to move forward without the need for a complete rebuild of the plinths.
